“Tiger Computing supports two servers at the North of England Commissioning Support Unit, where they run regular health checks on our system. Back in 2011 Tiger worked with the Commissioning Support Unit who were using an old Windows server to run an intranet service. They wanted to replace this and were guided to use an Open Source solution, so – whilst they had the technical skills to rewrite the intranet site, and the facilities to host the servers and provide network connectivity – they needed access to specialist Linux skills from an external supplier. Tiger Computing built two servers for them, a development system and a production system.
There were a small number of performance issues after these servers went live, and the Tiger team worked in partnership with the client to assess what was causing it. To eliminate potential issues with the client’s own virtual machine infrastructure, Tiger loaned the client a discrete hardware server, which went on to run the intranet successfully for a number of years. More recently, they moved the intranet servers from hardware to a new virtualisation platform.
